Hawaii has little if no natural sources of gold on the islands, but is rich in gemstones, including peridot and coral, relics and ruins of ghost towns destroyed by tsunamis or volcanic eruptions, and many gold, silver, diamond and other precious jewelry, coins, watches, and other valuable items can be found on the beaches, ground, and in the water, washed up by shipwrecks, lost by visitors from the past such as those who were stationed or settled on the island during times of war, and primarily from the huge number of wealthy tourists that visit Hawaii each year.

Comment I saw from a blogger on treasure hunting in Hawaii: "I have hunted on the beaches there several times and it is great.  The State law is that you can dig in the sand on the beaches, but you can't dig in the ground anywhere.  The beaches are checked regularly by locals for lost coins and jewelry, but there are new finds every day.  I found a beautiful old silver bracelet and also came back with a small bag full of coins. The most important thing is to never turn your back on the ocean or it will take your life.  The waves seem to come out of nowhere sometimes and they will knock you down so hard and drag you away. The last time I was there a father was trying to help his small child who was knocked down and he was knocked down also, and they both drowned, so just be very careful and you can have a great time."
