Joe Mullinen's Loot (See Robin Hood of Pine Barrens) Vision of Kidd Gold Buried on Farm Welcome to New Jersey, your first stop on The Northern Pass. Much of New Jersey, the Garden State, was claimed by the Dutch before the arrival of the British. Often referred to as the "Crossroads of the Revolution" because the British and Continental armies fought several critical battles there, New Jersey, with its substantial Quaker population, was also especially intolerant of slavery, and the state was a major part of the Underground Railroad. In the early days, the first English settlements in New Jersey were gained by purchasing title to the land from the Indians. The Quakers endeavored to prevent traders from taking advantage of the natives through their early laws, although difficult to enforce. New Jersey now has a rich history of battles, early settlements, and lost treasure stories. |
