Pennsylvania Treasure Legends Welcome to Pennsylvania, once dubbed William "Penn's Woods," at the heart of liberty and independence. Tribes of pastoral Indians once inhabited what is now Pennsylvania, hunting wild game, growing corn, and using swift bark canoes to traverse the rivers and fish. Later, Pennsylvania became the home to the nation's capital, which was Philadelphia from 1790 until 1800, where the Liberty Bell resides at Independence Hall today. Also, one of the most critical battles of the Civil War was fought at Gettysburg in July of 1863, leaving 50,000 men dead or wounded lying in the fields in its wake, the same place that Abraham Lincoln later that year delivered his famous Gettysburg Address. Pennsylvania is not just full of history, but much of this history is accompanied by tales of treasure from war spoils to Spanish explorers and Jesuit priests, oil fields, bandits, sunken ships, and other buried and lost treasure. |
